♥ We found our Alibi

This past Saturday I took a little trip to visit Jo.Liu, designer and owner of Alibi. Her boutique is located on Mulberry Street in the heart of Nolita. The shop is absolutely adorable and filled with many fancy jewels and accessories (her own creations and friends too). I must commend Jo on her interior choices for her store. Hello, Brooklyn Flea! She has found some amazing furnishings to compliment her style for the boutique. I love the vintage dental chest shown in the third photo. Amazing! So here is what we know: Jo has an eye for jewelry design, she's a graduate of New York University and Parsons School of Design, she has worked as an assistant designer for high-end apparel design house, and she owns her own boutique! What's not to admire about any of that? Just wait till you see her new collection!

In the meantime, check out some of Alibi's pieces here .

Dream on Neon!

The designers are brightening up their runways and stores with the fluorescent sights of pink, orange, yellow, and green. Every year we fall more in love with the bright hues. We can't help it because it just kind of makes us happy. Check out some of these gorgeous neon pieces that we might just have to get our hands on.

FAVOR, yes please!

She's the designer behind one of your fancy favorites, the coveted Bar Bracelet. Meet Monika Reed of Favor Jewelry. . .

Favor is a jewelry design and production studio founded by Monika Reed as a way to offer delicate, timeless, and sentimental jewelry, inspired by the shapes, stones, and metals found in the natural world. As nature provides the inspiration as well as the materials for Favor, she feels it is an obligation to act environmentally and socially responsibly. She carefully researches material’s sources and she is committed to American distributors, whom she feels confident are providing fair wages and are meeting ethical working standards. Monika designs and produces all of her jewelry in Portland, Oregon, to support the local economy. She uses natural gemstones and reclaimed, hypoallergenic, and nickel-free metals. Everything made of sterling silver and 14k yellow and rose gold are certified to be 100-percent recycled. Her 14k goldfill has verbal assurance that it is manufactured from post-consumer recycled metals. Additionally, she recycles all metal scrap, uses recycled paper in printed materials, and all packaging is post-consumer recycled, recyclable and reusable.

Favor jewelry can be worn day to night, season to season, and year after year. Monika creates products that are not meant to be disposable and that will not enter the waste stream for generations, if ever. While these facts may not be apparent, they are Favor’s underlying principles. Favor’s goal is to create pieces that feel good to the hands, look nice to the eyes, and are friendly to the environment.

Office Space

Janel and I often talk about our future office space. It's a dream of ours to have a store front with a cute little office in the back with a little garden/patio with twinkling lights for summer evening soirees. I picture a night of friends, food, fun and fancy jewelry! Though I can't imagine renting a space in NYC for one obvious reason, the monthly rent! I have a feeling LA has a high ticketed price too, but let's just say the space would be bigger and quite possibly better. Check out these coveted work spaces. I mean who wouldn't want to sit on a cute pink couch for a work meeting.

Winter Wears

The cold weather has officially arrived. All we want to do is snuggle up on a cozy couch, with a hot cup of tea and perhaps a sweet, and of course shop online at www.thefancyaffair.com! Staying indoors still gets old though during the winter season. So what do we wear when we need to get out of our winter funk and fight the cold? Well pull on some skinny jeans, throw on that over size sweater, lace up those combat boots, grab your chunky knit scarf and your on your way! Oh and don't forget your coat too, but more importantly, remember to decorate your ears with some fancy studs!

Reason N°117 Why NYC is beautiful.

There are street performers and then there are subway performers. These are not the usual kids doing their "What time is it? It's sho' time" thing. The performers in these videos bring something more raw and organic to the underground world. Watch and enjoy!

Fancy Favs of the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Here are our fancy favorites from the Golden Globes in no particular order:

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace
Stunning as always.  We love the red lips!  Brad Pitt definitely completes the look.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel
So classy and modern. The back of this dress is amazing!

Emma Stone in Lanvin
This dress is such an amazing color on her.  Her smokey eyes give her such a nice sultry look.  Love it!

Mila Kunis in Dior
Always a red carpet favorite.  We love how she didn't over accessorize and kept it simple and sleek.

Bring on the BLING!

Ahh the awards season! We could go on and on about who will be the big winners tonight, but really let's talk FASHION! We want to focus on the jewels. The real stuff man! We're talking high profile brands like Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Harry Winston, Neil Lane, Pomellato, Chopard, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bulgari. It's the stuff I often dream about, especially the rare finds from vintage vaults. I can't deny my love for Cartier (one day I will own a Love Cuff). Do you remember the $1.6 million Cartier necklace that Helen Mirren wore last year? It was gorgeous and the price was memorable. Obviously!

I can't wait to see who has the best gems this year! Watch the red carpet now!

*Update!
There weren't many jewels that impressed me at the globes, but here a few that made the cut.

Jessica Alba with exquisite Bulgari earrings.

Charlize Theron's vintage Cartier head adornment.

Sofia Vergara in $5 million of jewelry by Harry Winston,
placing her to the top of the list of the most expensive red carpet Golden Globes styles.
She wore 31.58-carat earrings and one of the bracelets was 62.72-carats! WHOA!

We're excited!

I thought it might be too early to blog about this, but really it isn't since Janel just booked her flight to NYC! Woohoo! So it's happening. We will be attending Capsule and Coterie next month. I can't imagine how much a.d.d. we will have, but we promise to try to focus and stay focused since we just want to bring you jewelry enthusiasts (like us, duh!) even more awesome jewelry to The Fancy Affair.

Have you never been to Market Week? Well let me tell you. It's a smorgasbord of clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories. Consumers from far and near are coming to the east coast to source their new favorite goods for the 2012 seasons. Janel and I can't wait! Most of our attention will be on Capsule which will have more independent designers. Coterie will be more of a researching and trend scouting trip for us. We can't wait to report back and let everyone know who we met and how it went. We have high hopes of finding new and upcoming designers to bring to The Fancy Affair. So watch our NYC, The Fancy Affair is about to take over!

p.s. Is it too soon to start planning my outfits for Market Week?

Introducing Collette Ishiyama. . .

Collette Ishiyama is a jewelry designer based in NYC's East Village. After studying painting at Pratt, Ishiyama realized her aspirations spanned beyond the two dimensional. Her love of creating dioramas and miniatures propelled her to try her hand at creating jewelry. Soon she was apprenticing for leading jewelers in New York and had found her niche.

Collette Ishiyama's debut collection, "Emerald City," is influenced by Egyptian jewelry, samurai warriors and the omnipresent sliver of the Chrysler building. Each piece is an arcane world of its own, lined with shimmering black stingray leather. Each model is meticulously carved by Ishiyama and cast in Manhattan.

We hope you enjoy Collette's pieces as much as we do!
Check out the rest of her collection here!
